Daura Regains Freedom after Two Months in Detention ...
Two months after his arrest and detention, former DirectorGeneral, State Security Services (SSS), Mr. Lawan Daura, has been released from custody, THISDAY authoritative source said yesterday.
Daura had been relieved of his post by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, then acting president, on August 7, 2018, following the siege to the National Assembly by armed agents of Department of State Security (DSS) in an alleged plot to forcibly remove from office, the presiding officers of the Senate, its president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
He was thereafter taken into custody by the police, which on the basis of the directive of the acting president, instituted an investigation into the siege that the federal government said was unathourised.
Although a couple of days after his arrest and detention the police sent an interim report to the acting president and sought permission to detain him pending further investigations, no further reports had been reported.
His sack occurred during President Muhammadu Buhari’s vacation in London, giving blood to speculations that he might be recalled upon the president’s return.
The president, however, affirmed his deputy’s decision, retaining the appointment of the acting DG, Matthew Seiyefa, until a substantive helmsman was appointed last month.
