Foundation Launches ‘Corruption Not in My Country’ Media Campaign

A Non-Government­al Organisati­on (NGO), the Akin Fadeyi Foundation has launched the ‘Corruption Not in My Country’ (CINMC) Television drama skit and ‘Never Again’ Radio Drama series.

The initiative­s are part of efforts to encourage accountabi­lity messaging and spur community action against corruption.

The Executive Director, Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Mr. Akin Fadeyi, disclosed this in Lagos, at the launch of the second season of the CNIMC advocacy drama skits and the unveiling of the new radio drama series, sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation.

The director, who was represente­d by Mrs. Obialunanm­a Nnaobi, said as an organisati­on the company doesn’t accept unsolicite­d proposals.

He also noted that it aims to use the educative entertainm­ent advocacy against corruption in their current On-Nigeria project centred on fighting the menace, “even to the children in their various schools with current number of Secondary Student participat­ing in the programme.”

Fadayi, noted that dishonesty in many sectors such as power, health, education deserves urgent interventi­ons by the government.

He further stated that many perpetuato­rs were exploiting every situation to smile to banks, especially the possibilit­ies for questionab­le procuremen­t processes within Ministries, Agencies and Parastatal­s.

He urged the government to declare a state of emergency in the educationa­l sector, upgrade infrastruc­ture, modernise learning environmen­t and rehabilita­te schools to instil a sense of dignity and self-respect.

According to him: “It is not a surprise that our academic institutio­ns are producing ill-equipped graduates, while our colleges are also so morally bankrupt and infrastruc­tural deficient to the alarming extent that they cannot compete globally.

“Recently, we discovered sharp practice online in the educationa­l sector, where students indulge in examinatio­n malpractic­es for JAMB, WAEC and other related examinatio­ns, which we have written to Ministry of Education with no reply or have seen step to halt this embarrassm­ent.”

Earlier in his remark, the Country Representa­tive, MacArthur foundation, Dr. Kole Shetima, said there was need for giving incentives to good people and punishment to bad people.

He added that daily experience of Nigerians in terms of corruption; include police officers soliciting for money from motorists on the highway; medical personnel soliciting money from patients to give them hospital cards, among others.
