How Warri Became Nigeria’s Fashion City
It was first-of-its-kind as the oil rich city of Warri witnessed a fashion show aimed at showcasing upcoming designers. The event saw Tosan Emume emerged as the best designer of the year, reports
arri fashion and style week 2018 theme “shades of culture” put together by Arhecal Synergy Ltd, a fashion company runs by Carol ArhereObih to manage and organise fashion events in collaboration with Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) lived up to expectation at its debut fashion show held in the oil rich city of Warri, the heartbeat of the Niger Delta between September 28 and October 29.
After a meticulous planning by the organisers, the fashion week started with pre-auditioning of upcoming designers where the best 10 candidates emerged and were given fabrics provided by Da Viva to make an outfit for the competition at the main event.
September 28 witnessed an array of colourful display of culture as the fashion week kicked off with a street catwalk and carnival at the Delta Mall where both male and female models were dressed in colourful carnival costumes.
The second day which is the main event saw collections from the ten upcoming designers and top designers like Modela Couture, Ejiro Amos-Tafiri, Ara-Ewa creations, Enro Wendy fashion, Auleve Nigeria, Gudy Lagos, Regal By Fuoma, lghogele Arts, Rudavson Creations, Da Viva Apparel and Hair Collections by Twins. were the representative of the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Steven Odogun, representative of the Uwvie Youth Council, Mr. Patrick Ogaga, the president of FADAN, Mrs. Funmi AjilaLadipo, the coordinator of FADAN Delta Chapter, Emeremgini Uche Genevieve and other dignitaries.
The climax of the fashion week was the presentation of awards to outstanding Deltans who have excelled in their chosen careers and serve as positive influence to the youth in the state. The Hon. Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Emmanuel Basin Chinye, Mudi Creation and Ono Bello were recognized.
