In a bid to prioritise constant power supply within its franchise distribution areas the Abuja electricity distribution company (Disco) has said that vandalism as well as theft of electricity will now attract heavy sanctions.

The Disco in a statement quoted its Managing Director, Mr. Ernest Mupwaya, to have cautioned customers against electricity theft and vandalism.

It stated that the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello, has designated two High Court judges and five Magistrate Court judges to now handle electricity related matters.

The statement was signed by the Disco’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr. Oyebode Fadipe, and Mupwaya.

It explained that the designa- tion of judges to handle electricity related matters was in order to speed up the process of dispensation of justice in this regards.

According to Mupwaya, erring customers would in this regards face huge consequences, including jail terms, fines, among other forms of punishment.

“With this development, it is important for us to advice our customers to desist from committing any act that will make them fall on the wrong side of the law. In the past, people believe that they can always get away with whatever they do because the process of justice dispensation was slow,” said Mupwaya.

Mupwaya, equally lamented that the Disco’s huge loss of resources to vandalism has resulted in hours or even days of power outages within affected community.
