DESIGNER, MODHAN SHOWCASES IN HOUSTON

Last September, the Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week, took place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos, with over 30 emerging fashion designers who came from different states in Nigeria to showcase their most recent fashion collection to a large community of fashion lovers.

Guest judges; Adebayo Oke Lawal, Akin Faminu, Dipo Ayoadeusi, Sharon Ojong, Jane Michael Ekanem, Maryannee Alabi and Chidera Muoka eventually selected Olakanye Modupe, the creative director of Modhan as the Women’s wear designer of the year.

They were very impressed with the way she was able to use crochets to make beautiful pieces which made her collection stand out.

As a prize winner of NSFDW, Modhan was sponsored to showcase during the African Fashion Week in Houston, United States, an event that highlights the essence of African culture and aesthetics on the runway through a series of fashion shows, events, educational seminars, industry-focused workshops and special campaigns.

Modhan’s showcase was the highlight of the African Fashion Week in Houston as the audience had never seen anything close to what this young designer displayed. Her pieces were all unique, beautiful and carefully finished. It was gathered that Houston’s notable fashion influencer Phylicia Alvarez has indicated an interest in working closely with this young designer.
