Sokoto Deputy Governor Resigns
The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has resigned.
THISDAY gathered that Ahmad submitted his resignation letter to the state House of Assembly on Tuesday but was not read on the floor by the assembly at the time of filing this report.
A source in the assembly who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the resignation.
He denied that Ahmad resigned as a result of a removal plot against him, stressing that there was no plot to sack the deputy governor since he has not committed any offence.
When contacted to confirm the resignation, the Director of Press to the former deputy governor, Bawa Ibrahim, did not pick his phone.
Last July when Governor Aminu Tambuwal defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) with 19 House of Assembly members, his deputy remained in the APC with 11 assembly members.
Ahmad is currently the governorship candidate of the APC in the state who will slug it out with his boss in the governorship election next year.
A member of the APC who did not want his name to be mentioned, stated that as preparations for the 2019 general election gather momentum, the deputy governor took a good decision to avoid being removed so that he would not be distracted.
