Remembering Remi Lagos… Foot Prints of a Fashion Icon

Family and friends bemoan her loss six years after

-

As family and friends of Remi Osholake aka Remi Lagos, commemorate her sixth year of demise, the life they shared and memories they made together, unroll like a winding road stretched out for miles to a small cafe at the end of the isle, the proverbial rendezvous with untimely death. The meadows sigh coolly with the wind to assert her place above the earth although she lies six-feet underground, where sharp sand mingle with bones and rotted flesh of the interred. It’s the sixth year since Remi Lagos died but her beloved friends and family will never forget her.

They remember the evenings they spent sharing war stories and fun memes. Secrets spilled and memories cradled together as they sought new worlds. All these are a thing of the past now; this month, November, marks the sixth anniversary of the celebrated fashion designer’s demise.

Thus to celebrate her short, eventful life, the family of the late award-winning designer gathered few days ago, to hold a special prayers in honour of her soul. At the event, Remi Lagos was also celebrated by her fans and loved ones who poured encomium on her even in death.

The deceased ebony imaginative designer was known as one of Nigeria’s biggest fashion icons. Her fashion outlet located on Bode Thomas Road, Surulere, Lagos, became a Mecca of sorts for socialites who jostled to adorn their frames with their exquisite designs.

Remi Lagos died in November 2012, at Harley Clinic, London, United Kingdom, where she was buried, after an unsuccessful battle with uterine cancer. The 51-year-old had no children but she is survived by a sibling, Adetomi Osholake.

Remi’s death served as a devastating blow on her family and friends, who couldn’t get enough of her while she was alive. If distance truly, makes the heart grow fonder then melancholy is the mislaid piece that makes the pangs in the bereaved heart grow stronger. Ask family and friends of the deceased. They know this!
