Dayo Adeneye’s Dashed Hope

-

It seems that the ambition of Dayo Adeneye, Commissioner for Information in Ogun State, of becoming a member of the State Assembly may take a long time to come true. It was gathered that while he was busy struggling to raise funds towards the actualisation of his agelong dream, his name was yanked off the list of All Progressives Congress standard-bearers for the 2019 general election.

A source disclosed that the news came as a rude shock to him and it has been giving him sleepless nights.

He was said to have suffered this loss as a result of his loyalty to his boss, Ibikunle Amosun who is at loggerhead with the National Working Committee of the party over what they termed as imposition of candidates for the election.

Insiders revealed that the former radio and television presenter had wanted to contest election into the House of Representatives, but was asked to step down by his boss.

The former Primetime Entertainment has joined the list of causalities with the loss of his Ogun State House of Assembly party ticket.

It will be recallled that when Adeneye, famously called D1, declared his political ambition in 2014, many were simply astounded.

In their thinking, the co-owner of Primetime Africa is too polished for the murky waters of Nigerian politics. But the U.S.-trained broadcaster was resolute and therefore pursued his new dream with zeal and vigour.

It didn’t take him long before he wormed himself into the hearts of his constituents in Odogbolu, Ogun State. He had wanted to represent the constituency at the state House of Assembly in 2015 on the platform of All Progressive Congress, APC.

However, to his chagrin, he was given a baptism of fire, so to say.

But he remained unruffled. Even while many encouraged him to dump the party, he never yielded.

Following his appointment as a Commissioner, he had thought that he has fully stabilized his feet in the state political setting. He was confident that his loyalty to the number one of the state would definitely lift his political aspiration to the sky.

But alas! He made a mistake; his ambition of being a lawmaker has been given a kiss of death.
