Tonye Cole, Please be Careful

-

You see, this is not a laughing matter so I will not even attempt a light-hearted treatment of the issue. An attempt on anybody’s life talk less of the life of an aspirant must not be taken lightly. I had wanted to yab my brother after I heard the news especially how the aje butter would have fared jumping into the wild jungle. But after I saw the video I had a change of mind and took pity not only on him but on us as a country. Tonye not used to these kinds of things kept talking as the gunshots rang out. The man not even recognizing the sound of gunshots kept standing and had to be literally shouted at to get on the floor. You see the pitiable state we find ourselves in this country, where bullets and violence are veritable and accredited weapons of discussions. You see where we have found ourselves, you see why there is so much despondency in the land. So an intellectual and sophisticated personality like Tonye would rather be shot at in a hail of bullets and then one thug would now be elected in his stead and we expect a glorious return? My people, this week I am in a state of despondency, depressed and massive hatred for the generation that has led us to this point. The people – they know themselves, they gathered at Jonathan’s book launch- yes that generation they have destroyed the last vestige of honour and respect that we have as a nation. Yet, they refuse to back down. They continue in their pitiable and selfish struggle for continued control of a skeletal and ghostly nation or why would they throw up these Godzillas as presidential candidates for us to choose from if not to continue in the tyranny that has been our lot since 1960?

Tonye my brother, you know I like you. We have shared a glass of champagne at Bolanle Austen Peter’s show. We have shared a high table discussing youth empowerment at Jeniffer Olize’s forum and we have mutual friends and I would really hate to lose you. Even though you do not really like me, I know o just be careful my lord. Continue with the struggle, do not give up, keep pushing and you never can tell your story can just be the beginning of the renaissance we so badly need in this country. You have my support and don’t worry, God will protect you as you carry on. Kai.
