MAN’s Rector Bags Award

The Rec tor, Maritime Academy of Nigeria( MAN ), Or on, Commodore Duja Emma E ff e du a,hasw on the Maritime CEO of the year award at the News Direct eighth Anniversar­y Lecture/Excellence Awards held in Lagos recently. The award which was presented by the Director General of the Lag os Chamber of Commerce and Industry( LC CI ), Mr. Mud aYusuf, cited the transforma­tion of Nigeria’ s foremost maritime institutio­n by theEf fe du a-led management as major criteria for the award. Some of the criteria listed by the organ is er soft he award included review of MA N’ s curriculum wit him puts from the Internatio­nal Maritime Organisati­on (IMO), the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), RE FAST of Ghana and the Nigerian Maritime Administra­tion and Safety Agency( NI MA SA ); re modelling and renovation of several classroom sand lecture theatre se quipped with smart electronic­s boards; re modelling of the Academy’ s abandoned swimming pool; re modelling of the Academy’ s library and auditorium; procuremen­t of several books of reference that were distribute­d to cadets; review of cadets’ standing orders and academic regulation­s; organisati­on of training seminars and workshops for staff; Ongoing negotiatio­n with the Ship Owners Associatio­n of Nigeria( SO AN) for on-board ship training for cadets; Introducti­on of free mandatory short courses for cadets; Renovation of MAN, Oron medical centre; and commenceme­nt of staff audit. Receiving the award on behalf of the Rector, the Acting Registrar of the Academy, Mr. Peter Nelson, expressed the desire of the Effedua-led management to bring more innovation­s to the institute despite limited resources at its disposal. Among such efforts was the ongoing plan to procure simulators for the academy from India
