DONALD DUKE – WELCOME, BUT…

-

The courts have declared him the winner of whatever it was they did in their party. They have even asked professor Jerry Gana to pay him N500,000 as cost. Well, for me this

na just an exercise in comedic distractions. So two weeks to a major election, a ‘serious’ party was just resolving the matter of its presidential candidate and with no real structures on the ground or national spread will now be carrying themselves to the polls hoping that people will vote for fine face. na wa.

So last Saturday someone reached out and said he wanted me to speak with Donald Duke. I quickly agreed o, because while he was governor at a meeting in the state house, I carried the files for my Oga for life Albert Okumagba, we were served some delicious Afang. Since then, I have been looking for that Afang and although madam is my friend, each time we chat and talk reach that side, she will use style and dodge. So you can see that for me this was an opportunity to corner her and collect my Afang not because I felt Chief Duke would say anything that mattered. So I agreed o and started getting ready for the meeting only for me to get a call cancelling it at the last minute. So you can imagine my state of mind as I am writing this. A presidential candidate that would stand up the Duke of Shomolu thereby denying him the opportunity of indulging in sweet delicious Afang cannot be a really serious one o. How will he convince the people that if we vote for him that he will keep to his promises? Anyways before they start to call me names, let me state it here very quickly that if we had sense, we should all have rallied round his candidacy as the most credible third force to oust these juggernauts who have held us hostage. Instead we carried them Sowore, Fela, Mohghalu, Aunty Ezekwesili and the other Rat Packs to decimate energy, speak English and plan to export Indian hemp as a credible alternative to oil export. For me, Donald comes with the experience, maturity and understanding of politics and government. The youth should have come together in one voice to push him as our real alternative. We have not and as such missed that opportunity but the real question here is for Donald himself: Should you be taken seriously? Only you can answer the question. I am hungry abeg.
