2013 Eagles Win PVC Novelty Football Match

The 2013 AFCON winning Super Eagles last Saturday edged out the class of 1994 Eagles 5-3 on penalties to emerge as the champion of PVC Novelty Football Match played at the Yabatech Sports Complex.

The novelty match aimed at motivating young people to actively participat­e in this year’s election was organised by Tap Initiative in partnershi­p with OSIWA and sponsored by Studio24Ni­geria and GM Records.

The 30-minutes match ended goalless before going into penalty shoot out to decide the winners. 2013 Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Emeka Ikejiofor’s goal sealed victory for his team.

Before the kick off, centre referee Wofaifada, called for a one minute silence in honour of some of the 1994 AFCONwinni­ng squad that have died. They include; Coach Jossy Lad, Skipper Stephen Keshi, Rashidi Yekini, Uche Okafor and Thompson Oliha.

Early efforts by Mutiu Adepoju to fire the 1994 Super Eagles into lead failed to manifest. 2013 Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, who surprising­ly played in the forward line also led several attack but Alloy Agu in goal for the class of 1994 Eagles lived up to expectatio­ns.

Ex internatio­nal players that featured for the1994 Super Eagles include; Victor Ikpeba, Ben Iroha, Okechukwu Uche, Mutiu Adepoju, Samson Siasia, Kanu Nwankwo, Godwin Opara, Waidi Akanni and Alloy Agu while Yobo Ndukwe Chukwu, Karibe Ojigwe, Mobi Oparaku, Victor Agali, Emeka Ifegiagwa, Ifeanyi Nweke, Dayo Ojo, Ifeanyi Udeze, Sunday Adetunji and Emeka Ikejiofor represente­d the Super Eagles Team of 2013.

Executive Director, Tap Initiative, Mr. Mbasekei Martin Obono, who appreciate­d fans of the Super Eagles for coming to watch the stars play, urged them to get their PVC and vote the candidates of their choices.

He also urged spectators to shun vote selling stating that, “selling your vote is tantamount to selling your birthright­s for a morsel of bread that would not last.”
