Imo: PDP Worries over Ghost Polling Units
The Peoples Democratic Party( P DP) in I mo State has raised the alarm over what it called “plans by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the elections in the state in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Action Alliance( AA )” through the creation of ghost polling units and voting points (VP).
Secretary of the PDP Campaign Council, Hon. Ray Emeana who briefed the press yesterday stated that the party had uncovered secret plot by IN EC colluding with the A PC and A A to keep hidden to the public some of the fictitious voting points in the areas occupied by the candidates of the two sister political parties to the detriment of the PDP and other political parties in the state.
He listed the hidden polling units to include the local governments of Oru East, home of the APC governorship candidate, Hope Uzod in ma, Idea to South, home of Governor Rochas Okorocha and Government Reserve Area (GRA) in Owerri, residence of Uche Nwosu, the AA governorship candidate.
Emeana noted ,“for example in Awo Omamm award 2, O ru East L GA, polling booths 001, 002, 003, 004 and extra voting points have strange ly emerged. Same situation has come up also in Aw o-Om am ma ward 111 booth 009, Amiriwa rd 1 booth 002. The situation in Omamma ward is most alarming as it is unprecedented. In polling unit 001, six extra voting points have been created; same for booth 006( three extra units ), booth 008 (four extra units, booth 009 (three extra units), etc”.
He said ,“This scenario is applicable in the GR Award in Owerri Municipal where a total of 20 extra voting points have suddenly emerged. In Ideato South, Ogboko ward 1, all the polling booths have extra voting points of between two and three. Same also for Ogboko ward 11 Umuobom, Omuma-Ishiaku.”
According to him, the pertinent question is: why will such high numbers of extra voting points be created in very low density populated place while very high populated LGAs are left out?
Again, Emeana declared that the PDP had uncovered plots to declare the governorship election inconclusive as the arrangement of the APC and AA had brought military uniforms to be given to their thugs who would eventually foment trouble that would lead to the cancellation of the results.
