Guardian Crime Correspondent Nominated for Philanthropy Award
For his passion for philanthropy and all things welfare for the less privileged and orphaned kids, The Guardian Crime correspondent, Odita Sunday-Udemaguna has been nominated for the Nigeria Philanthropy Awards (NPA).
The event is billed to hold on September 14 at Sheraton Hotel and Towers Abuja by 6 pm.
Although he has been a welfarist for years, in recent times, Sunday-Udemaguna has structured his giving through his Anioma Youth Network for Development (AYND). Through the AYND, he has championed his back to school project, which sends hundreds of school kids back to school with all necessary materials ranging from bags to books and other educational materials.
In the first year of its launch, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) operating from Delta North senatorial district in Delta State, decided to reduce the financial burden on parents during the resumption period by backing 120 less privileged children and orphans in the community.
Following the buzz it generated, Sunday-Udemaguna decided to expand his philanthropically gesture to seven other communities and this year, he is set to even make a bigger commitment.
According to a letter nominating him and signed by the NPA Project Coordinator, Emmanuel Oko, the yearly Award/Gala night event is organised by individuals with reputation in Nigeria’s media sector. Themed “Unsung Philanthropist 2019”, Oko said the award seeks to celebrate those who have dedicated a substantial part of their financial resources, technical expertise and intellectual prowess to the philanthropic services of the less privileged, needy and underserved in the Nigerian society.”
He added that the event is geared towards honouring Nigerian philanthropic service providers, good governance advocate, and achievement towards improvement and betterment of the weak in the society.
Oko said the event will also honour advocacy, leadership/ policies, corporate social responsibilities, and community selfless service.
” We are set to thrill, inform and inspire good works, using sterling stories of achievements made by persons with selfless acts towards the improvement and betterment of the weak.”
The nominee is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations and also a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants.
