The lawmaker representing Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the National Assembly, Hon. Beni Lar, has stated that the fight against poverty among women and youths are critical for the survival of Nigeria.
She therefore, charged women and youths not to submit themselves as political thugs that are merely used and dumped by politicians, urging them to channel their energies towards productive ventures.
Lar disclosed this recently in Plateau State while declaring open a two-week training workshop for women and youths on waste-towealth management, and production of cosmetics.
The Lawmaker, who was represented by the embattled Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Joshua-Laven said poverty and unemployment have been the bane of underdevelopment in the state.
She said: “The fight against poverty is crucial to our survival; and Small Medium Enterprises (SME) is the answer. SME can help in strengthening growth and development and make our women and youths to be self-sufficient.
“The SME is a sustainable solution in tackling poverty in the country and the Hon. Beni Lar is training over 1050 women and youths in various acquisitions, cosmetic production, soap production, and making of solar panel among others.”
She said that politicians often use women and youths during campaigns and dumped them after victory, and urged the people to take advantage of the skills acquisitions for economic development and become self-dependent.
Lar also urged the women and youths to shun all forms of social vices such as prostitution, armed robbery and other forms of criminality.
