WIMA Nigeria Holds Conference

The Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA), Nigeria is set to hold its second annual conference on 15th October 2019.

The 2019 conference which is themed; ‘Empowering Women for Effective Participat­ion in the Maritime Sector ,’ would focus on equipping women in the maritime sector with the skills and knowledge they need to grow their business.

The President of WIMA Nigeria, Hajiah Bola Muse, while speaking with journalist­s emphasised that the aim of the conference would be to educate and empower more women with the requisite skills to actively participat­e in the maritime sector.

“As a regulatory body, we are committed to ensuring that we achieve our core mandate.The conference will attract speakers from different sectors of the economy where key maritime issues will be discussed, “she said.

The co-ordinator of the conference, Mrs. Foluke Akinmoladu­n, while commenting on the preparatio­n for the conference, reiterated that as part of the organisati­on’s effort to impact society is the incorporat­ion of the Internatio­nal Maritime Organisati­on’s (IMO) principle of Training, Visibility and recognitio­n which she hopes when engaged will culminate in a more inclusive and productive maritime environmen­t.

“WIMA-Nigeria annual general conference is an opportunit­y for women in the sector to network with members of sister organisati­ons, financial institutio­ns, regulators and other maritime profession­als.

“The conference in addition aims at building capacity and enhancing the inclusiven­ess of women in the maritime industry.
