CBAN to Light up November 1 at Civic Center

-

In a bid to deepen the relationship of credit facilitators and the customers, Credit Bureau Association of Nigeria (CBAN) has announced the sixth edition of the National Credit Reporting Conference scheduled to take place on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Civic Centre in Lagos.

The Chairman, CBAN and Credit Registry’s Director, Mrs. Jameelah Sharrieff – Ayedun said “the activities at the event would aid us to further embrace all key-players of borrowers and lenders alike and enhance a more robust eco-financial system that serves all stakeholders effectively”.

Jameelah, who made this assertion at the press conference, stated that they are on a mission to improve standards of living and expand wealth in the Nigeria economy through financial inclusion and access to credit.

She noted lenders are credit bureaus’ direct customers. And how the success stories of the lenders depends on that of the borrowers as well.

She said, “We have a full day dedicated to your customers. We will educate, expatiate, elevate and celebrate each other on November 1.”

“Credit Bureaus are agencies which collect and share information about the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses. Credit bureaus have been in existence for over a century in many countries around the world. Likewise, in Nigeria, private credit bureaus exist. They were first established in 2003 (just 16 years ago) by Mr. Taiwo Ayedun and today there are now three national credit bureaus licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria: CreditRegistry Plc, First Central Credit Bureau Ltd and CRC Credit Bureau Limited.”

She added that this year unlike other years when the bureau’s focus was on the lenders, this year it is dedicating the conference to the people that keep the lenders all in business – the small and medium size business owner, the regular Joe on the streets of the country who needs the much – required but somewhat elusive credit to either start a business or improve their quality of life. Jameelah also stated the theme of this year’s conference to be ‘Deepening Financial Inclusion: Credit Opportunities for MSMEs and Consumers’.

“This year’s conference aims to achieve two things; to close the information gap such that MSMEs and consumers are aware of the credit bureaus operations and how it affects them. We aim to create awareness about having a food credit history, being financially responsible and promoting an individual’s credit worthiness to better position themselves to get credit with ease as well as to close the credit gap such that MSMEs and consumers get easier access to credit”, she said.

Also present at the press briefing were CRC Credit Bureau Managing Director, Ahmed Babatunde Popoola who was represented by Peggy Chukwuma-Nwaosu (Head of Business Development) and First Central Credit Bureau Limited’s Managing Director/CEO Mobolanle Adesanya.
