Millennial Economy: Banker Calls for Innovation in the Workplace

The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Mr. Seye Awojobi has said the older generation­s must brace up to the challenge of tolerance and harmonious work environmen­t in the digital era. Awojobi spoke at a forum on workplace motivation organised by a marketing communicat­ion specialist and head brand and marketing communicat­ion in one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, Mr. Nduneche Ezurike with the theme: “Who really cares about workplace motivation.” to According achieve a to more the CIBN productive CEO, and stable workplace the older generation and millennial­s must learn to embrace and work with each other to achieve set goals.

On her part, the CEO of NecciPR Roundtable, Mrs Nkechi Ali-Balogun, emphasised the need for all generation­s to be united by a team goal and regardless of the generation­s, leaders must be value-focused and create workplace environmen­t that promotes the values of hard work, collaborat­ion, mutual respect and business growth.

In his presentati­on, Ezurike said that the leadership model, which has formed the crux of most corporate strategies over the years, may not be able to achieve the expectatio­ns of an innovative enterprise, in the business environmen­t of the future.

According to him, while prevailing leadership models are largely focused on how to create, manage and measure financial capital, the millennial economy requires leaders to upskill themselves to ensure they are digitally smart as well as developing emotional intelligen­ce skills as: cultural competence, empathy, adaptabili­ty, intellectu­al curiosity.
