The Azuri Solar system has introduced the pay-as-you-go home solar system in Nigeria to provide independent electricity.
This was disclosed at a two- day Solar Technology conference held in Lagos, with the theme: ‘ Solar Future Nigeria.’
The CEO, Azuri Technologies, Mr. Simon Bransfield- Garth, said the firm was providing solar home systems for households across Sub- Saharan Africa using solar power.
He described solar as a reliable power with positive advantages.
“Every night you are going to have light, watching your TV. Also, you get rid of a generator for a large part of the day. You get rid of the noise, fumes and the cost of having one. The third one is Azuri you are able to get free energy,” he added.
Giving more maximum benefits, Bransfield- Garth added, “so, we estimate that already 10 million consumers in Sub- Saharan Africa have free energy from pay as you go solar home system and the first half of this year a million new systems were sold”.
He added: “You can waste energy, it sounds weird, but you can afford to waste energy because it has no impact on the environment.
“For Azuri solar system, it is designed to run for 12 years without issues.” Baransfield- Garth said his firm expects to, overtime, progressively increase the capability of the system.
“When we started Azuri 12 years ago, we provided just a little light which essentially was a replacement for a candle or a kerosene lamp.
“Today, we got a 32- inch television. In five years’ time, I guarantee you we will have bigger television, fridges, and a variety of other devices,” he emphasised.
