The National Vice Chairman, South-south, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Emmenuel Ogidi has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government does not have any solution to the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

Ogidi argued that the position of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), on ‘Amotekun,’ a security outfit jointly set up by states in the South-West, declaring it illegal, suggested that the federal government had lost its grip on internal security.

He added that the people were now trying to protect themselves through legal means and not taking laws into their hands.

The PDP leader, who spoke to journalists in Abuja yesterday, said, “Only few days ago, the South-West states came up with ‘Amotekun,’ a security outfit, only for the Attorney-General to come up and say it is illegal. People are being killed and we should not defend ourselves? President Buhari took oath to protect Nigerians but that is not what we are seeing.

“We now have a National Assembly that is ready to sign and pass just anything the Executive brings to the floor (of the chambers). Look at the United States today, President Donald Trump has been impeached by the House of Representatives; as it stands, they are waiting for the Senate. If this were to be in Nigeria, you will see some level of demonstrations and even hired foreigners come and cause confusion.

“Now we hear the Miyeti Allah group saying the Fulani across the continent (Africa) do not need visas to come to Nigeria. What is going on? Is it that we do not have a territory again? People can just come without identity? As a country, we have not been able to put in place effective national identity system and now, we want to open the borders for people without identity to come in.”

Ogidi decried that despite the high spate of insecurity in the country, Buhari has retained the Service Chiefs who are due for retirement.

He said, “They have told us in clear terms that they do not have solution to the security problem of this country. We are all hopeless and have resorted to God to help us. Insecurity is so bad because the economy is so bad. A good economy can also help reduce insecurity. Majority of Nigerians have turned into beggars.
