Ahead of 2020 Election, Edo Elders Call for Buhar’s Intervention

-

Some elders of Edo State have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the lingering political crisis between the camp of Governor Godwin Obaseki and that of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, saying that the people now live in fear and apprehension ahead of the governorship election in the state.

In a statement signed on its behalf by the President-General of the Edo Elders Consultative Forum, Chief Matthew N. Asemota; and Secretary, Colonel Johnbull Omo-Ojo (rtd), the elders lamented that efforts have been made in the past, “directly and indirectly, covertly and overtly to resolve the issues between governor and his predecessor without success.”

They pleaded with President Buhari to call Obaseki to order so he can face governance.

The elders said that the state was yearning for development and good governance and promised to use their votes to bring about better leadership in 2020 “if the governor does not tow the line of governance for which he was voted into office in 2016.”

According to them, “no governor goes to election, beating the drums of war and expects the people to trust him with power,” reminding him to learn from history to avoid the experience of the political impasse that led to the fall of the administration of former Governor Oserhiemen Osunbor in 2008.The elders alleged that the drums of war were becoming too loud, scary and terrifying.

The elders faulted the constitution of a commission to probe the construction of a Central Hospital in Benin City during the tenure of Oshiomhole as governor, added that, “as Chief Economic Adviser, Governor Obaseki was a key component of the administration of former Governor Oshiomhole and that was what earned him the exalted position he occupies today.”
