Ex-Lawmaker, Jibrin Abdulmumin Licks Wounds

-

Jibril Abdulmumuni is not a greenhorn in the nation’s political scene.

He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2011, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency of Kano State under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Following his election, he had been outspoken; and many times, he had talked himself into controversy.

The outspoken former member of the lower chamber had got lots of this and it is bad enough that it has almost become a blot on his profile.

Many would not forget in a hurry how he was suspended in 2017 by the then Speaker Yakubu Dogara when he accused the Lower Chamber of an attempt to pad the 2016 budget.

Although the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified his suspension and ordered his allowance to be paid in full, the decision did a lot of damage to his political career.

In the build-up to the National Assembly election in 2019, he had been the director-general of the Femi Gbajabiamila Campaign Committee, and worked conscientiously for Gbajabiamila’s victory.

Following Gbajabiamila’s victory, all eyes were on Jibrin. Insiders in the Gbajabiamila camp revealed that everyone was confused about what to do with Jibrin.

Although a source revealed that Jibril, who had earlier headed committees of Finance and Appropriations consecutively, gave the impression that he was never desperate for position, he was said to have been disappointed and dejected after he was excluded from heading any of the committees in the House.

While the foregoing may not be news, the Kano born-politician, a few weeks ago, failed to get back his mandate when he was thrashed at the rerun election by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali DattiYako.

He is currently licking his wounds in silence.

Many attributed his defeat to his fight with the governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje.

However, a source revealed that though he has gone back to his business, he may likely come back in 2023 for the number one job of the state or choose to go to the Senate.
