COVID-19 AND THE REST OF US

When Wuhan province in China reported symptoms of what is now known as Corona virus or Covid- 19, the world must have thought that it was not something that should be given attention. But suddenly like wild fire, it quickly spread into adjoining provinces and the whole country, then the world noticed! Just as they were grappling to come to terms with this pandemic, it entered Europe where Italy is worst hit. America and the rest of the world brought sporting activities, businesses, schools and religious activities to a halt.

While these were going on, there were reports in some quarters about the virus not surviving in Nigeria due to the temperature and other weird assumptions but recent happenings have thrown such assumptions to the trash bin because not only has it claimed a life as at the time of writing this piece but the number of reported cases is also on the increase. This has prompted government at all levels to come out with measures to contain the spread. However, I am not impressed with the lackadaisical nature of the way our leaders go on in carrying out their responsibilities. Be it as it may, there are positives to be taken which can change the face of our medical facilities forever.

Many countries of the world have stopped issuing visas to other nationals and since this affects our politicians too, it now behooves the government to train, build, equip and maintain medical facilities in the nooks and crannies of this country to ensure that should event like this come up in the future, we shall not be taken aback!
