Institute of Infrastructure, PPPs Debuts
The Nigeria Institute of Infrastructure and Public Private Partnership (NII3P) has announced the commencement of operations. The institution, which is the brain child of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) is in line with the commission’s mandate which includes the development of PPP as a preferred public procurement route in the face of dwindling revenue available to government. Director General, I CR C, Mr. Chi di Izuwahs aid the commission intends to leverage the NII3P as a vehicle to advance efforts at closing Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit. He said that the commission had been involved in several PPP capacity building programmes with the aim of developing the required competence, knowledge and skills for public and private practitioners to structure and implement viable and sustainable PPPs among other activities to develop manpower. However, he noted that as a result of several internal and external recommendations with respect to PPP capacity gaps, it became necessary for the commission to establish a dedicated arm with a focus on PPP capacity building manned by ICRC staff and requiring little additional spending in the face of dwindling resources and mounting needs. He added that all required statutory approvals for NII3P were completed in 2019. He added that the institute will commence as a virtual online learning campus and in time become physical as resources become available. In a statement issued by acting Head, Media and Publicity
