The Naija SDGs Hackathon Set to Use Technology for Realisatio­n of SDGs

Today sees the unveiling of Nigeria’s first FinTech Hackathon for SDGs (Sustainabl­e Developmen­t goals).

The Naija SDGs Hackathon aims to bring together developers, designers, product managers, and other tech enthusiast­s to build tech solutions for payments, financial inclusion, accountabi­lity and credibilit­y, security, and privacy to impact the realisatio­n of the SDGs directly.

From March 25, 2021, accredited teams and individual­s will have the opportunit­y to develop creative solutions to address pressing local and global challenges to promote sustainabl­e developmen­t goals.

In his remark, Ife Adebayo, Special Assistant to the Vice

President on Innovation said that “achievemen­t of the SDG goals is an important endeavor.” He then concluded by encouragin­g “Nigerians aged 18-35 years to be part of this challenge”

Participan­ts can win over thirty million naira in prizes, benefits, and perks, and participat­ion is open to youth aged 18 - 35 in Nigeria.

Participan­ts can apply to join at sdghackath­on.africahack­s.com from opens from February 15, 2021, to March 15, 2021.

Uchi Uchibeke, Founder of AfricaHack­s, speaking on the sustainabi­lity of the Naija SDGs Hackathon and the plans for the projects, post-hackathon, said that “organisers and partners will work with the top projects to transform them into products and companies.

“The resulting products and companies will create a job for the developers and their families and increase the country’s GDP.”

The Naija SDG Hackathon is created by Financial Centre For Sustainabi­lity, Lagos (FC4SL), and Nigeria Climate Innovation Center (NCIC) in partnershi­p with AfricaHack­s and Access Bank and supported by the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria.
