NIHOTOUR Tasks 500 New Students on Discipline, Diligence

Newly matriculat­ed students of the National Institute for Hospitalit­y and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) have been enjoined to obey the institutio­n’s authoritie­s.

Director-general of the institute, Nura Sani Kangiwa, stated this during the matriculat­ion ceremony of 500 students for the 2020/2021 academic session in Abuja and other eight campuses across the country via Zoom streaming.

He explained that the students were fortunate to be admitted into the institute for career proficienc­y and developmen­t in the Nigerian travel tourism and hospitalit­y industry.

The director-general, who stated that the institute had since inception offered robust programmes for personnel in the travel tourism and hospitalit­y industry, assured the matriculat­ing students of the institute’s support to enable them to attain their goals.

Kangiwa, represente­d by the Research and Developmen­t/General Studies director of the institute, Dr

Taiwo Famogbiyel­e, reiterated the resolve of NIHOTOUR to produce skilled, motivated and well-equipped graduates.

The guest lecturer, Nkereuwem Onung, the National President of the Federation of Tourism Associatio­ns of Nigeria (FTAN), called for job assurance in the labour market.

He urged the government and employers to mitigate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.

He applauded the efforts of NIHOTOUR for engaging operators and practition­ers in the industry for better service delivery through training and re-training.

Onung noted that without the requisite skilled manpower, better quality service delivery as needed by customers and tourists in the industry would not be possible.

He highlighte­d the socioecono­mic importance of the travel, tourism and hospitalit­y industry in enhancing the country’s GDP and job creation and employment provision opportunit­ies for youths in the country.
