NNL Dismisses Match-fixing Allegations in Enugu Playoffs

Insurance to play Ekiti Utd in a delayed Group B match today

-

Organizers of the on-going Super 8 in Enugu, the Nigeria National League (NNL) have dismissed as frivolous, allegation that they are favoring a particular club in the playoff.

NNL’s Media Officer, Amar Ignis in a statement yesterday said all the eight clubs in Enugu for the playoffs were enjoying a level playing field.

“The report about match-fixing is to say the least, frivolous. There is no truth in that malicious report. All the clubs are enjoying a level playing field and officiating so far has been near perfect,” observed the media officer.

Ignis stressed that NNL’s only interest is to see the best four teams gain promotion to the elite division of the nation’s topflight league.

“We are in Enugu to ensure that the best four teams qualify for the NPFL. Those peddling allegations of match-fixing are only being mischievous,” Amar insisted.

Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance on their part stated that it is simply wicked for anybody to accuse the club of not playing to the rule.

The club’s Media Officer, Kehinde Osagiede, said Insurance players would not be distracted.

“We are focusing on the task ahead and we are here to get the job done by fair means,” stressed the team’s spokesman.

Insurance are to face Ekiti United in a must-win game moved to Friday after heavy downpour made the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium pitch unplayable.

The Edo team lost their opening game against 3SC 2-1.

Similarly, the remaining 25 minutes of the Gombe United FC versus DMD FC game of Group A is to be concluded before the match involving Insurance and Ekiti.
