NIN Enrolment Reaches 104m as NIMC Promises to Increase Number with Strategic Planning
The Director General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote has said the country’s National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment figure has reached 104 million as at January 2024, up from 85.6 million that was recorded in July 2022.
The DG who gave the information at the ongoing management retreat of the commission in Lagos, said the figure would increase further before the end of the first quarter of 2024, based on the strategic plan put in place by the current management of NIMC, in line with its 5-Point Agenda.
Part of the strategic plan to increase NIN enrolment, he added, is its online modification portal that will go live in the coming weeks, which will allow citizens to log on to the portal for their NIN information modification, from the comfort of their homes and offices.
According to Coker-Odusote, “The online modification portal will help reduce congestion at NIMC’s offices nationwide and enhance efficiency in NIN registration and modification. The portal is currently undergoing quality assurance test and all other necessary tests that will make it fit for use. Other strategic plans that will further increase NIN enrolment include our pre-enrolment service that will soon be available to Nigerians. With the pre-enrolment service, citizens can go online and do pre-enrolment and later on a convenient date, go to the nearest NIMC centre for biometric capturing. The essence is to reduce stress of physical enrolment and to also reduce congestion of people at all NIMC’s offices nationwide.”
In her welcome remarks during the opening ceremony at the retreat, Coker-Odusote said: “Our purpose is clear: to enhance our leadership capabilities.
