MTN Apologises for Network Failure, Blames Multiple Fibre Cuts

- Emma Okonji

MTN Nigeria, yesterday, apologised to its numerous customers that experienced some difficulties in making and receiving calls yesterday afternoon.

The telecons company, which blamed the challenge on multiple fibre cuts it experienced on its submarine cable, however said the situation was been handled by its site engineers, assuring that it would be addressed.

Senior Manager, External Relations, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Funso Aina, who tendered the apology in a statement, stated: "Our customers have been experiencing challenges connecting to the network due to a major service outage caused by multiple fibre cuts, affecting voice and data services. Our engineers are working hard to resolve with services gradually being restored in some areas. We apologise for the inconvenience and ask for your patience and understanding as the team works to restore full service as soon as possible."

Subscribers to MTN, yesterday, experienced difficulties in making calls and receiving calls on the MTN network. Data users were also unable to communicate via data, as the challenge affected both voice calls and data communication.

Some MTN subscribers experienced several drop calls, while others were unable to make successful calls.

Unknown that the challenge was as a result of fibre cut, some MTN subscribers were afraid thinking they may have been disconnected as a result of the ongoing disconnection of SIM cards exercise, ordered by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which commenced nationwide yesterday.
