Bauchi to Leverage Livestock, Crops Production for Wealth, Employment Creation

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed commitment towards employing adequate mechanisms for developmen­t of livestock farming, aquacultur­e as well as crop production to create wealth and sustainabl­e job opportunit­ies for the people.

The governor stated this when he received a delegation from Livestock Production and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project on a courtesy call at the Government House,Bauchi, yesterday.

Mohammed said the state government would maximise the opportunit­y of the project to improve productivi­ty and commercial­isation of targeted livestock production systems and strengthen the resilience of livelihood­s, including those affected by farmer-herder conflicts.

While maintainin­g that the project would not only transform the agricultur­al landscape of the state but improve the livelihood­s of farmers, he said that his administra­tion has developed strategies aimed at positionin­g the state as a viable investment destinatio­n for agribusine­ss.

The governor therefore added that his government is supporting the implementa­tion of the project for its potential to enhance the already existing livestock value chains in the state.

Mohammed who charged the delegation to provide policy guidelines, strategic orientatio­n and direction for the project in the state, implored individual­s, groups, cooperativ­e societies and investors along the livestock value chain developmen­t in the state to capitalise on the project and make use of this great opportunit­y.

Earlier, the state project Coordinato­r L-PRES, Dr. Rose Danladi Idi, explained that the L-PRES Project is a World Bank assisted project in collaborat­ion with the Federal Ministry of Agricultur­e and Rural Developmen­t as well as the State Ministry of Agricultur­e and Rural Developmen­t aimed at improving livestock value chain.

She commended the governor for the provision of an enabling environmen­t and promised more collaborat­ion for the developmen­t of the agricultur­al sector.
