NPFL Powerhouses Battle Relegation Live on StarTimes

-

2024 seems a tough year for some of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants like Heartland FC, Akwa United, and Gombe United.

In a shocking turn of events, as the 2024 season of the NPFL enters matchday 29, these giants find themselves embroiled in a desperate fight for survival from the dreaded relegation zone.

For supporters of these clubs, it’s a bitter pill to swallow. Akwa United, the upstarts who stunned the league with their 2021 title triumph, now find themselves scrapping for survival. Gombe United, the perennial playoff contenders, haven’t tasted that ultimate glory, but their consistent presence in NPFL instills fear in their opponents. Now, both face the unthinkable – a plunge into the relegation abyss. Even Heartland of Owerri, a club with a decorated past and a history of strong league finishes, isn’t immune to the struggle.

The fight to avoid relegation will be a fierce one. Every point counts, and the pressure will be immense. But these are clubs with a rich history, a winning mentality, and a passionate fanbase behind them. They haven’t forgotten how to win.

The weekend will be a test of character for these fallen giants. Akwa United will be away to Remo Stars. The match will air live on Beta Sports, channel 244 on StarTimes at 5:30pm. Before then, Plateau United will host Doma United at 3pm also on Beta Sports channel. Another match that will air live to fans across the nation this weekend is Lobi Stars versus Enyimba International tomorrow at 4pm.

Two other teams fighting to escape the relegation zone, Heartland FC of Owerri will host Sporting Lagos while Gombe United will be away to Niger Tornadoes tomorrow at 4pm.
