8 music stars who have gone under the radar

Over the years, there’s been a constant rise and fall of stars in the music scene. But some of then can’t be forgotten in a hurry. This week, we take a look at music stars who have gone under the radar.

Sasha P

The first lady of Nigerian hip-hop, Sasha P set the trail blazing for Nigerian rappers. Eva and Muna both cite her to be one of their main influences. Back in 2012, she founded her own fashion brans, Eclectic by Sasha and revealed that she was taking a music hiatus to focus on her fashion business. She also splits her time either doing motivation­al speaking or philanthro­pic work.

Martins

JMartins was also at the top of his game before he went under. Martins Okwun became a household name with his hit singles like Oyoyo, Jupa and Good or Bad no to mention features with top artistes like Phyno, P-Square and the likes of Fally Ipupa as well.

eLDee

e LDee reigned the charts with songs like I go yarn, Champion, Big Boy and Na Wash accr9oss Africa. But asides music, he has been known to be very outspoken on social issues and activism. Even in his songs, he reflects ongoing political and social problems Nigeria faces. When not singing, Lanre Dabiri is a media consultant with internatio­nal brands like CNN, Cartoon Network, NBA, UPS and many others.

Naeto C

Naetochukw­u Chiuke, ore prominentl­y known as Naeto C had such an outstandin­g musical career when he started out in 2008 with his debut album, You Know My P. after that, he also released an even more successful album with tracks such as 10 Over 10, Bartender and 5 & 6. But ever since then, Naeto C seems to have disappeare­d back to his life and left the music scene behind.

9ice

Gongo Aso was arguably one of the biggest hits of 2008 and so was his album of the same name. Alexander Ajifolajif­aola enjoyed an exemplary career up until 2014 when he decided to join politics. He contested for a set in the House of Representa­tives but lost in the primaries. Currently, 9ice is a Special Adviser to the Oyo state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

Olu Maintain

Yahooze was the anthem all over Nigeria in 2007 with a dance that reigned for years as well. Olu Maintain was initially part of the music group, Big Bamo before going solo releasing his debut album. Back in 2012, he released a single, ‘Nawti’ which was also a moderate success and has also collaborat­ed with 50 Cent, Olivia and Fatman Scoop too. He hasn’t revealed any plans of releasing anything else soon though so we’ll assume he’s enjoying his life away from the spotlight for the time being.

Weird MC

This female rapper opened the door for other women to follow in suit and showed that it was indeed cool, to be female rapper in Nigeria. Adesola Adesimbo Idowu became one of Africa’s most popular female rappers when she was in her prime. Sometime in 2016, there were whispers about her working on a new album, yet till, date nothing has been released.

Paul Play

The sultry voice that stole our hearts with songs like Angel of My Life and Mo So Rire, Paul Play is another artiste that be swept under the carpet that easily. But after a long break and a drop in album sales, he plans of returning to the music scene dropping singles in preparatio­n for an album that’s hopefully on the way.
