NYC launches ‘Badir’ scheme to promote entrepreneurship
Muscat - The National Youth Commission (NYC), in collaboration with Riyada, announced the launch of ‘Badir’ scheme for entrepreneurship. The project is part of the strategic project titled ‘Economic Empowerment’, which was launched by NYC in the third period.
The Badir scheme aims at increasing the number of successful entrepreneurship projects owned and managed by youths. It also aims at raising awareness on the importance of entrepreneurship projects.
Those in-charge of the project seek to achieve a number of out- puts that include conducting analytical study for the entrepreneurship sector, assessing how far youths benefited from it and identifying means to develop the sector.
Data of the National Centre for Statistics and Information estimate that contribution of the SMEs sector to the sultanate’s GDP stood at 14 per cent as of mid 2014.
The scheme will train 80 youths on entrepreneurship, in cooperation with organisations involved in promoting entrepreneurship. The project will also subsidise setting up ten entrepreneurship projects for youths.
The application form for training is available on the commission’s website www.nyc.om and its social media channels.
