Pub­lic and gov­ern­ment em­ploy­ees re­ceive IT train­ing in Salalah

On the side­line of its par­tic­i­pa­tion at Salalah Tourism Fes­ti­val 2017, the In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy Au­thor­ity (ITA), rep­re­sented by the Dig­i­tal So­ci­ety De­vel­op­ment Di­vi­sion, con­ducted a num­ber of train­ing pro­grammes and work­shops in the use of in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy that aim to en­hance trainee skills and com­pe­ten­cies in this field to help them, the or­gan­i­sa­tions they work in and the so­ci­ety ben­e­fit in gen­eral.

ITA also, in co­op­er­a­tion with the Omani Women’s Cen­ters at Salalah and Mir­bat, con­ducted an­other train­ing course for four days en­ti­tled ‘Pro­mot­ing the Use of So­cial Net­work­ing Pro­grammes in Mar­ket­ing Prod­ucts’.

The train­ing tar­get­ted more than 80 trainees in­clud­ing housewives, busi­ness­women and craftswomen to help them use the mod­ern tech­nolo­gies and so­cial net­work­ing pro­grammes to mar­ket prod­ucts and ser­vices and also en­cour­age en­trepreneur­ship and es­tab­lish new projects or de­velop ex­ist­ing ones to en­able them to com­pete lo­cally and in­ter­na­tion­ally.

Ad­di­tion­ally, to raise aware­ness on the ef­fi­cient util­i­sa­tion of soft­ware li­censes among gov­ern­ment en­tity em­ploy­ees, ITA con­ducted a work­shop for three days at Salalah Gar­den Ho­tel, with the par­tic­i­pa­tion of 15 em­ploy­ees from six gov­ern­ment en­ti­ties, fo­cus­ing on the im­por­tance of ob­tain­ing up-to-date soft­ware li­censes and con­tin­u­ously up­dat­ing them.

It also stressed on the sig­nifi- cance of pro­mot­ing the use of open source soft­ware and deal­ing with more than one ser­vice provider in­stead of re­ly­ing on one provider in or­der to re­duce cost. The work­shop in­cluded prac­ti­cal train­ing in up­grad­ing the de­vices with the lat­est ver­sions and how to use the data­bases as well.

ITA started its par­tic­i­pa­tion at Salalah Tourism Fes­ti­val 2017 in its cor­ner at the Mu­nic­i­pal­ity En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre and its par- tic­i­pa­tion will con­tinue un­til Au­gust 23.

Through its par­tic­i­pa­tion at the fes­ti­val, the ITA seeks to achieve a num­ber of ob­jec­tives, no­tably to en­cour­age the use of gov­ern­ment ser­vices and pro­mot­ing the ser­vices pro­vided by some gov­ern­ment en­ti­ties to var­i­ous sec­tors of the so­ci­ety in­clud­ing the Min­istry of Health, Min­istry of Com­merce and In­dus­try, Min­istry of Man­power and Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion.
