Public and government employees receive IT training in Salalah
On the sideline of its participation at Salalah Tourism Festival 2017, the Information Technology Authority (ITA), represented by the Digital Society Development Division, conducted a number of training programmes and workshops in the use of information technology that aim to enhance trainee skills and competencies in this field to help them, the organisations they work in and the society benefit in general.
ITA also, in cooperation with the Omani Women’s Centers at Salalah and Mirbat, conducted another training course for four days entitled ‘Promoting the Use of Social Networking Programmes in Marketing Products’.
The training targetted more than 80 trainees including housewives, businesswomen and craftswomen to help them use the modern technologies and social networking programmes to market products and services and also encourage entrepreneurship and establish new projects or develop existing ones to enable them to compete locally and internationally.
Additionally, to raise awareness on the efficient utilisation of software licenses among government entity employees, ITA conducted a workshop for three days at Salalah Garden Hotel, with the participation of 15 employees from six government entities, focusing on the importance of obtaining up-to-date software licenses and continuously updating them.
It also stressed on the signifi- cance of promoting the use of open source software and dealing with more than one service provider instead of relying on one provider in order to reduce cost. The workshop included practical training in upgrading the devices with the latest versions and how to use the databases as well.
ITA started its participation at Salalah Tourism Festival 2017 in its corner at the Municipality Entertainment Centre and its par- ticipation will continue until August 23.
Through its participation at the festival, the ITA seeks to achieve a number of objectives, notably to encourage the use of government services and promoting the services provided by some government entities to various sectors of the society including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Education.
