As part of its ongoing community development initiatives, Sohar Islamic, Bank Sohar’s dedicated Islamic banking window, contributed funds to the Omani Bahjah Orphan Society towards the support in educating numerous orphans for the full academic year.

The gesture falls under the institution’s committed CSR drives that focus on reaching out to underserved communities across the sultanate and marks the fourth consecutive year that Sohar Islamic has extended assistance to the society.

Salim Khamis Saif al Maskari, DGM and head of Sohar Islamic handed over the donation cheque to Shaikh Dr Abdul Rab al Yaafi, chairman of the Omani Bahjah Orphan Society, in the presence of Mazin Mahmood al Raisi, Sr AGM and head of Marketing and Customer Experience, at Bank Sohar and Ahmed Salim Jaboob, chief manager, Sohar Islamic Sadah branch.

Munira Abdulnabi Macki GM - HR and Corporate Support, Bank Sohar, said, “As a financial institution that always gives back to the community, we have been at the forefront of initiatives that promote social development and provide assistance to the needy. Orphans are an important part of our society and can be highly productive members of the economy with the right kind of assistance. It is therefore necessary for them to have stable support system that will improve their income and give them sustainability for the future.

“We have been supporting Omani Bahjah orphan society in Salalah for the last four years and we commend them for the invaluable and untiring efforts in rehabilitating the orphaned members of society. Their endeavours have had a great impact on the lives of these individuals for they have given them hope.”

Thanking Sohar Islamic for its magnanimous contribution, Shaikh Dr Yaafi said, “We are immensely grateful to Sohar Islamic for their generosity that will make a difference to the lives of our members. It sets a good example for how important it is that the private sector be proactively engaged in social causes. Our goal is to create a stable environment for orphans and expand our network to cater to a larger number of orphan children.”

Established in February 2014, the Omani Bahjah Orphan Society provides orphans with food supplies, psychological and emo- tional care, apart from social, education and health care. The centre also builds and reconstructs homes for orphans, coordinates with government bodies to provide assistance to orphaned children as well as creates awareness among local societies. This donation marks the fourth consecutive year Sohar Islamic has supported the Omani Bahjah Orphan Society.

In recognition of its contributions, Bank Sohar has received numerous accolades for its CSR efforts locally, regionally and internationally. The most recent of these awards was the ‘Golden Order of Merit in the field of CSR’.
