A 30 year old cricketer, Praveen V M, tragically died on Thursday night after collapsing during a nets session at the Al Amerat ground recently.

Oman Cricket Chief Development Officer Duleep Mendis confirmed the incident but said he has few details about the incident, which took place on September 8.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Jabin Jabbar, a friend of Praveen, said that the cricketer had arrived in Muscat from Dubai few months back and was keen to break into one of the A Division teams.

“He was a good allrounder. The sad incident took place during a nets session while he was giving practice to his childhood friend and Enhance CT wicketkeeper Nishanth. He complained of severe headache and asked for water. But before he could have water, he collapsed. He was given a CPR by Fayyaz Butt, one of the Enhance CT cricketers, and then rushed to a hospital in Amerat.

“The hospital in Amerat refused to admit an unconscious Praveen. So we rushed him to Al Nahdha Hospital where he was revived and later transferred to Khoula Hospital. His condition was serious and he sadly passed away on Thursday night.”

He added, “Praveen’s brother, who works in Dubai along with his uncle, arrived the next day after he collapsed. One of the doctors who attended to him said that it was a case of ruptured brain aneurysm.”

“He was keen to play domestic cricket and would have certainly made it into one of the A Division teams as he had impressed the skipper of Renaissance CT, one of the A Division teams,” said Jabbar, who plays for Renaissance. “My team’s skipper had called him for another nets session to have a look at his batting. But that never happened,” said a distraught Jabbar.
