‘Greatness awaits’, said Mazda, for the 45 to 60 five-a-side teams which competed in this month’s Mazda Power of 5 Cup, held at Wadi Khalbooh football pitch in Nizwa on Friday.

Footballing ‘Greatness’ came in the form of prize money to be won by the first, second and third placed teams in the event. The head coach of the Oman Futsal Team was present at the tournament to scout for talented individual players who have the chance to be added to his database, and potentially be selected for a tryout for the team.

The event marked the fifth in the series of Mazda Power of 5 Cup community football tournaments, with the first three events having already taken place in Muscat and a fourth in Nizwa.

Open to amateur clubs/players, the tournament gives local footballers a platform to perform and show their skills individually and as a team. The tournament format is a league-come-knock-out system.

According to Towell Auto Centre (TAC), the sole distributor of Mazda vehicles in the sultanate, “Football is Oman’s national passion. Besides continuing to be involved in regional football initiatives like this one, we are also very proud to be the Official Automotive Partners of the Oman Football Association, and the title sponsors of the Mazda Cup – where the country’s 14 premier professional football clubs play to win this cup.”

The models available through TAC are the Mazda 2, Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 models; the Mazda CX-3, CX-5 and CX9 range of SUV crossovers as well as the BT-50 pick-up.
