Muscat – Three Omani students represented the sultanate in the Falling Walls Conference held in Berlin recently.
Salim Abdullah al Kabi, Khadija al Zadjaliya and Basma al Kiyoomiya presented their innovative projects and interacted with some of world’s most prominent scientists who presented their breakthrough researches. Each presentation was for around 15 minutes, stated a press release.
Kabi’s project was titled, ‘Omani Frankincense and its role in the manufacturing of varnish and paints’; Khadija presented her project, ‘High ambient temperature by a jacket’, and Basma’s project was on ‘Organic compounds from water’.
Competing with around 100 contestants from 80 countries, the three presented their innovative ideas before a jury comprising 13 judges.
“My scientific idea was designing a jacket that will help workers working under high temperature work conditions,” Khadija said.
She added, “Participation in such events enhances our position among the world’s countries and shows the ambitious thoughts of Omani youth under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.”
The three made it to Berlin after competing with 22 other projects in the final stage of the Falling Walls Lab Oman Competition at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
