Rob­beries force can­cel­la­tion of tests

McLaren and Pirelli have can­celled tests sched­uled for Tues­day and Wed­nes­day in the wake of a se­ries of at­tempted armed rob­beries against For­mula One teams at Sao Paulo, Brazil, this week­end. Team mem­bers of Mercedes, Wil­liams and Sauber were either robbed at gun­point or had close es­capes over the week­end. McLaren said it felt the risk to staff was not worth run­ning the test­ing af­ter Mercedes team mem­bers had been left shaken af­ter hav­ing guns held to their heads. "We have jointly de­cided with Pirelli to can­cel this week's tyre test at In­ter­la­gos," McLaren said.

For­mer Eng­land star Sin­clair ar­rested

For­mer Eng­land and Manch­ester City winger Trevor Sin­clair has been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer af­ter be­ing held for al­legedly drink driv­ing. Sin­clair was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of drink driv­ing, com­mon as­sault and crim­i­nal dam­age on Sun­day af­ter a woman suf­fered mi­nor in­juries when she was hit by a car.

He was later ar­rested on Mon­day on sus­pi­cion of a pub­lic or­der of­fence and as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer. The 44 year old has been re­leased un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion pend­ing fur­ther in­quiries. Sin­clair, who also played for West Ham, QPR and Cardiff, won 12 caps for Eng­land in­clud­ing four ap­pear­ances in the 2002 World Cup.

Eng­land to meet Nether­lands, Italy

Eng­land has ar­ranged friendlies against the Nether­lands and Italy in March as it steps up its prepa­ra­tions for the 2018 World Cup. Gareth South­gate's side will face the Nether­lands in Am­s­ter­dam on March 23 be­fore host­ing Italy at Wem­b­ley four days later.

Farah won’t rule out 2020 marathon bid

Bri­tain's Mo Farah says he could com­pete in the marathon at the 2020 Olympics if he feels con­fi­dent of win­ning a medal. Farah re­tired from the track in Au­gust to fo­cus on road rac­ing and has been coy about his Olympic fu­ture. The 34 year old had pre­vi­ously hinted he might not race for Bri­tain again, but Farah hasn't com­pletely ruled out the op­por­tu­nity of go­ing for gold in Tokyo. The four-time Olympic cham­pion said, "If I'm ca­pa­ble of get­ting a medal or close to a medal (in Tokyo), you will see me."

Eng­land drops Kruis against Aus­tralia

Eng­land rugby boss Eddie Jones has axed Ge­orge Kruis for Satur­day's show­down with old ri­vals Aus­tralia. Kruis started Eng­land's 21-8 vic­tory over Ar­gentina on Satur­day, but the sec­ond row for­ward has paid the price for a dis­ap­point­ing per­for­mance. The 27 year old Sara­cens star was re­leased on Tues­day in the lat­est blow for a player who has suf­fered a num­ber of in­jury set­backs this year. Jones has de­cided to in­clude Char­lie Ewels in­stead of Kruis in the 25-man train­ing squad gath­ered at its Bagshot base.
