MoM to work with public, private sectors to create 25,000 jobs
H E Bakri says job seekers must look for openings on their own
H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, the Minister of Manpower, has said that the public and private sectors must collaborate to achieve the Omanisation goal.
H E Bakri also said that job seekers should not wait for the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) to help them find openings. “They should not just register with the ministry and wait for calls but rather make efforts to look for jobs on their own. There is a need to approach employers directly.”
He said that employers must hire Omanis willingly. “Employers should not wait for the ministry to force them to do so. Omanis must be given priority for all job openings and promotions.”
H E Bakri was speaking to media representatives last week at a meeting hosted by H E Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al Hasani, Minister of Information. The meeting aimed to focus on cooperation among all parties to fulfil the Council of Ministers announcement of 25,000 jobs that should be created for Omanis in the private and public sectors starting from this month.
On the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Council of Ministers had conducted a year-long study on the issue of employment. The Council has come out with several decisions, including a plan to provide 25,000 jobs in public and private establishments.
H E Bakri said a committee has been set up to look into the recruitment programme. “There were 47,000 registered job seekers till October. We will work with the public and private sectors in the next six months to ensure that 25,000 Omanis are able to secure jobs.”
The Council of Ministers has urged private sector firms to accord maximum priority to Omanisation, stating that action will be taken against those who do not cooperate with the government on this matter. H E Bakri added, “There is a need for private sector establishments to employ more Omanis. MoM should not be the only body to monitor the job market, but private sector and individuals should do it too for the betterment of our sons and daughters. We all must work together to meet the Omanisation target.”
H E Dr Hasani said that job creation has to be the responsibility of all public and private sector entities. “We all have to work together and be part of this job creation programme. We have to give more importance to this project during the next six months.”
