Buraimi, North Batinah filling stations in fuel-quality dispute start restocking and selling M95 petrol after clean-up

-

Muscat – Following the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s (MoCI) directive to withdraw M95 petrol from some filling stations in Buraimi and North Batinah after it received complaints regarding quality of fuel, these pumps are now stocking and selling M95.

In a statement issued by MoCI, the ministry said it conducted a number of laboratory tests in coordination with the companies concerned and found deposits in one shipment of M95 grade petrol that had been transferred to Sohar Station for storage and transportation to a number of filling stations in the governorates of Buraimi and North Batinah.

During this period, the ministry had directed fuel marketing companies in the two governorates to withdraw M95 from the affected filling sta- tions, clean the deposits from the tanks and restock fresh fuel free of deposits. The ministry also made sure that there was enough stock of M95 petrol in the affected governorates during the clean-up period.

The clean-up work by Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) and the three fuel marketing companies that supply the affected filling stations was completed on Tuesday.

The ministry swung into action soon after it received the complaints and conducted meetings with Orpic and the three companies involved, and referred them to the Public Prosecution to take action when no satisfactory solution was found. It stated that it is following up on the case with the Public Prosecution for the benefit of vehicle owners.
