MoE signs agreements to provide Internet to government schools

Muscat - The Ministry of Education (MoE) signed two memoranda of understand­ing in order to strengthen the cooperatio­n in the field of providing fixed and mobile Internet services in government schools in Oman.

The signing took place at the ministry’s head office.

H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamdan al Toubi, Undersecre­tary in the Ministry of Education, signed an agreement with Eng Sami bin Ahmed al Ghassani, operations CEO of Omantel. The other agreement was signed by Eng Sultan bin Ahmed al Wahaibi, CEO of the Commercial Unit at the Omani Qatari Telecommun­ications Company (Ooredoo).

These memoranda will contribute to developing and providing fast Internet services in Omani government schools, in addition to providing low-priced Internet.

They will also facilitate the activation of the e-learning project, future educationa­l portal serv- ices related to the activation of smart applicatio­ns in schools, and increasing the speed of Internet and telecommun­ication services for the growing expansion and the employment of technology in administra­tive and educationa­l processes.

The two companies will deliver the service with different connectivi­ty technologi­es including fibre optics, LTE-related technical services and new technologi­es used by the companies.
