MoM hosts event to mark conclusion of heat stress awareness campaign
The Ministry of Manpower (MoM), represented by the General Directorate of Labour Welfare, in cooperation with private sector establishments, concluded an awareness campaign on the dangers of heat stress on Wednesday. The campaign was held under the patronage of Dr Khalid bin Salem al Saidi, secretary general of the State Council.
The campaign’s activities focused on explaining the risks to workers exposed to the afternoon heat in the summer months of June, July and August. MoM conducts awareness campaigns at the beginning of every summer stressing the importance of cooperation of the businesses involved in providing occupational safety and health requirements for workforces.
“The heat stress campaign is one of the most important steps taken by the ministry to find out the effects of high summer temperatures on workers in construction sites and exposed areas,” said Salim bin Saeed al Badi, director general of Labour Welfare, MoM.
He said that the total number of private sector establishments that abided by the afternoon work ban law this year was 1,894, while the number of violators was 771 establishments. The ministry conducted 2,665 inspection visits. Due to the importance of the campaign, efforts continued this year starting in June till the end of August to raise awareness of workers and to educate employers.
