MoCI conducts training programme on formal examinatio­n of patents

Muscat - The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) last week conducted a training programme on the formal examinatio­n of patents for specialist­s from government and private colleges at the ministry’s building.

The two-day programme was conducted in cooperatio­n with the Gulf Training Centre for Intellectu­al Property in Kuwait, stated a press release.

The programme discussed the emergence of the concept of intellectu­al property rights, literary property, industrial property, the importance of patents, inventions,technology, transfer of technology to patents, the con- ditions of granting patents and the manner of submitting an internatio­nal applicatio­n.

It also dealt with the formal examinatio­n of patent applicatio­ns in the patent office to ensure that all the required documents are in the applicatio­n file and to verify their correctnes­s.

In case of failure to comply with any of these procedures or if the documentat­ion is lacking, the office shall notify the concerned party within three months.

The participan­ts were informed on the methods of filing of a national applicatio­n and a regional applicatio­n by filing a patent applicatio­n with the Patent Office of the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council, a regional office of the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council, based in Riyadh.

The patent certificat­e granted by the office to the inventor provides legal protection in all member states.
