Occidental Oman enhances Haima camel race track
In continuation of its commitment to social responsibility initiatives, and its larger initiative to support camel racing in the sultanate, Occidental Oman recently announced the completion of their sponsorship agreement to renovate the Haima camel race track. The race track is considered the main camel race track serving the wilayats of Al Wusta governorate.
In accordance with the sponsorship agreement, Occidental Oman has renovated the Haima camel race track by replacing all the guardrails along the two sides of the 4km track. In addition, Occidental Oman has sponsored the construction of a 4km guardrail for media cars, which amounts to a total guardrail length of 12km.
The sponsorship also included the grading, levelling and sand laying for the 4km track, in addition to the extension of the racetrack barrier of 510m.
Moreover, the race track has been equipped with three automatic gates, as a modern enhancement to the sports site.
Stephen Kelly, president and general manager of Occidental Oman, said, “For the past five years, Occidental Oman has continuously sponsored camel races which were hosted at the Haima race track. We are proud to support the sport of camel racing in the sultanate, and particularly in our concession areas. In renovating the track, we hope to enhance the safety of all spectators, the media, and the local community, as they participate in this historic cultural sport.”
Occidental Oman has supported over 15 camel races during the last five years. This sponsorship comes within the framework of Occidental Oman’s long-term commitment to strengthen its social ties with the communities located in its concession areas.
