Oman Oil Marketing donates fuel card vouchers to medical volunteers

-

Dedicated to uplifting the community, particularly in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) has donated 60 fuel card vouchers to medical volunteers.

The gesture is part of an initiative launched by the Oman Medical Association (OMA) called Ma’afa for Oman, which established a temporary hospital in Amerat to treat COVID-19 cases. The hospital, with 64 beds and an intensive care unit, was staffed entirely by volunteer doctors, nurses and allied health workers from across the sultanate. Presenting each volunteer with a fuel card worth RO50, amounting to RO3,000,

Oman Oil Marketing Company aimed to honour their remarkable efforts and promote the spirit of volunteering.

“The ongoing pandemic has shown us, more than ever, the strength of our community, and it is humbling to see so many people unite for a common cause,” said David Kalife, chief executive officer of Oman Oil Marketing Company.

“At Oman Oil Marketing Company, we feel we have a role to play too, that extends beyond the fuel industry, and this is why we continue to find ways to reach out. These volunteers sacrificed their own personal time to put themselves on the frontlines, supporting the country’s health system during these exceptional circumstances, and we are forever indebted to them for their sacrifice.”

Ma’afa for Oman was launched by the OMA with the approval of the Ministry of Social Development and in coordination with the Ministry of Health, in response to the strain COVID-19 was taking on the country’s hospitals and healthcare facilities. The initiative set up a temporary hospital in Amerat, providing medical care to patients from all over the sultanate. More than 60 volunteer doctors, nurses, and allied health workers from both public and private healthcare institutions worked in the hospital, in addition to non-healthcare volunteers who provided ancillary services, contributing their skills and time.

Through its corporate social responsibility strategy, Oman Oil Marketing Company is committed to enhancing the quality of life of the communities it serves. Since the onset of COVID-19, the company’s efforts have been focused on supporting the country as it combats the pandemic, raising awareness through a social media campaign to encourage the community to stay home.
