Municipality to set up souqs, heritage village
As part of its efforts to develop Muscat governorate and support traditional goods and businesses, Muscat Municipality is studying the prospect of establishing a number of traditional souqs and a heritage village.
The Public Affairs Committee of the Municipal Council held its meeting on Wednesday headed by Qais bin Muhammad al Ma’shari, in the presence of representatives of the authorities concerned with the topics under deliberation.
The meeting discussed a number of projects, apart from proposals to establish popular markets (traditional souqs) and to establish a heritage village in Muscat.
In September, the committee also discussed the proposal to issue a decision or a local order to implement the legislation on modest dressing when visiting malls and commercial markets.
The rules, which apply to both men and women, were drawn up by the city’s Municipal Committee and submitted to the Municipal Council, which will be submitted to the Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court for approval.
Municipality consulted with the Royal Oman Police, the Ministry of Social Development, and commercial establishments in the sultanate to set the terms for modest dressing.
In September, the committee also discussed the proposal to issue a decision to implement the legislation on modest dressing when visiting malls and commercial markets
