Man United trigger Pogba contract extension

Manchester United have triggered the one-year option on Paul Pogba's contract in a move that will keep the France midfielder at Old Trafford until 2022. Pogba was due to be out of contract at the end of this season and recently ramped up speculatio­n that he could leave United by admitting it would be a 'dream' to play for Real Madrid. But, according to reports on Friday, United have moved to secure Pogba's services until at least the end of next season by taking advantage of the extension clause in the World Cup winner's contract.

Former City defender Zabaleta retires

Former Manchester City and Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta announced his retirement on Friday. Zabaleta left West Ham at the end of last season and has decided to bring the curtain down on his successful 18-year career. The 35 year old fullback joined City from Espanyol in 2008 and played his part in an era of unpreceden­ted glory for the English Premier League club. Zabaleta spent nine years at City, making 333 appearance­s and helping them win the Premier League in 2011-12 and 2013-14. Capped 58 times by Argentina, Zabaleta also won the FA Cup in 2011 and the League Cup in 2014 and 2016.
