Oman-India commerce ministers hold key meeting

The ninth session of Oman-India Joint Commission was held virtually on Monday. It was cochaired by H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in Oman, and Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in India.

During the meeting, ways of cooperatio­n between the two countries were discussed in several areas, including space and civil aviation, renewable energy, food security, health sector and informatio­n technology.

H E Munu Mahawar, Indian Ambassador to Oman, who was part of the meeting, tweeted, “A very warm and productive meeting, reflective of the close, friendly and vibrant ties.”

‘A thorough review of IndiaOman economic partnershi­p was undertaken and decisions reached towards further enhancing cooperatio­n in key areas,’ stated the Indian mission in Oman.

It is worth noting that the sultanate is witnessing remarkable economic cooperatio­n with the India, stated the ministry.

Oman recorded a growth of 0.69 per cent in exports to India in 2019, while the volume of trade exchange between the sultanate and India amounted to more than RO5.93bn. Indian exports to the sultanate increased by 33 per cent in 2019.
