Over 25,000 visited Muttrah Fort in 2019, an increase of 66%: NCSI
As many as 25,229 people visited Muttrah Fort in 2019, registering an increase of 66.2 per cent compared to 2018, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The visitors to the landmark site in Muscat included both locals and tourists from different countries according to the statistics of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The historic Muttrah Fort overlooks the Sultan Qaboos
Port, Muttrah Souq and neighbouring tourist spots.
Visitors to the fort can reach the area by car via Muttrah Souq, moving towards the office of Wali of Muttrah, and then taking a right turn towards the fort.
The fort seems as if it were the only passage connecting Muttrah and Muscat.
Currently, it consists of three circular towers - a huge one sitting on the summit, and the remaining smaller two are located in the west and the north of the large tower.
As per the NCSI figures, the number of visitors to the 51 castles and forts in the sultanate increased by 71.2 per cent between 2015 and 2019 to reach 426,525, while the total number of employees reached 110.
